Role Overview

Mercari is hiring a Backend Engineer in Tokyo to scale our peer-to-peer marketplace serving 22M+ monthly active users. You will develop distributed Go microservices running on Google Cloud Kubernetes Engine.

Key Responsibilities

Develop microservices handling marketplace listing, order checkout, and fraud monitoring
Improve system reliability, latency, and observability using OpenTelemetry and Prometheus
Collaborate with international product managers and frontend engineers across Tokyo and global hubs

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

3+ years building and deploying backend services in Go, Java, or Rust
Solid experience with GCP/AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, and relational/NoSQL databases (Spanner, MySQL, Redis)
Working proficiency in English; Japanese language learning supported by in-house tutors
